Q: Do I need a design?
It’s a good idea if you have a large and complex landscape project. However, if you can get comfortable with your landscaper and your project is small to medium size in design you probably don’t need one.

Q: Do I need an irrigation system?
This is like asking “Do I need a foundation for my house?” You must have an irrigation system, no questions asked.

Q: Should I have hardscapes as an accent to my landscape?
Walkways, patios, rock walls, ponds, pools are great features to add value and serenity to your landscape.

Q: What type of preparation is needed to the soil before adding seed or sod?
Ideally, a soil sample should be taken to find the pH level. This will allow amendments to be added to reach the proper pH level. The area should be free of rocks and weeds and loosened enough to allow the seed or sod to grow properly.

Q: Should I use a warm or cool season grass?
Warm season grasses, like Bermuda, look outstanding and are more drought tolerant during the summer months. Unfortunately they turn white when dormant, which can last for several months depending on your area. Cool season grasses like tall fescue are green year round and although it needs extra care in the summer.

Q Does watering my lawn during the day burn my grass in the bright sunshine?
No, the recommendation to water late in the day when it is cooler is to reduce water evaporation by the sun. Watering on a sunny day will not harm the lawn. It just means less water will get to the roots because some will be lost to evaporation.

Q: Does a flagstone walkway have to be set in mortar to last for many years?
No. Flagstone set in stone dust will drain properly and last a lifetime. It’s also easier to repair a broken piece if it is not set in mortar.

Q: At what level should I plant my newly purchased container or B&B material?
Most soil conditions allow you to plant 1/8 of the root ball above grade. For example, if your root ball is 16” deep, plant the top at 2” above ground.

Q: How close can I plant material to a house or other structure?
The maximum growth of material should be known to allow proper spacing. Always leave room for material to grow.
